It is very informative (as is) step by step, but it seems that iTunes is still necessary to make the transfer.
But it seems that if you can have iTunes installed, go to the page Subscriptions http://podcasts.yahoo.com/search?p=NPR&c NPR ... then click the Subscribe button. Used I do not use iTunes, Yahoo Music Engine is and it is working for me. But YME does not work for the iPod.

Subscribe to Apple iTunes, then add to your list of NPR's Pod Cast ....
That's what I do and I evertime access iTunes that are automatically updated the NPR podcast, and then fill my iPod with it .....
